La Rioja [1930s-40s]

Description: La Rioja is a western Argentine province. Most of the population was mestiza, this is, a mixture of the original people-diaguitas and olongastas-with the Spaniards who arrived in the 16th century. La Rioja did not receive as many European immigrants as the rest of the country but many people from the once Turkish Empire arrived in important numbers. They helped to build this region that still remains in a state of poverty and underdevelopment. Extent and format of original material: This envelope contains newsapapers' and magazines' clippings, a handwritten page with the letterhead of a deputy of the province La Rioja, typewritten letters and telegrams.
