Derecho Facultad [1930s-60s]

Description: The first university to have a Law Department in Argentina was the University of Córdoba that was founded in 1791. Previous to this creation, law was studied in the University of Charcas. In Buenos Aires they tried to found one without success in the 18th century but it is only in 1814 that the Academia Teórico Práctica de Jurisprudencia (Academy of Theory and Practice of Jurisprudence) was created to form practically the future lawyers who composed the elite. In 1821, the governor of Buenos Aires, Martín Rodríguez, issued a decree creating the University of Buenos Aires creating the Department of Jurisprudence. This was the precedent of the present Facultad de Derecho or Law Department. Extent and format of original material: Nepaco folder.
