Description: This volume includes letters, itemised returns of stores and pay lists of Liberated Africans. The letters refer to individuals intending to get married, articles required for use in the Liberated African settlements, collection of taxes, information about runaway children, lists of persons committed to jail and also information on judicial proceedings. The letters were sent to the Superintendent of the Liberated African Department and also to the Colonial Secretary. The villages of Hasting and Waterloo are the main geographical areas covered in this source. The document is written in English and is organized as a book. Although the cover indicates that the material dates from 1831, the volume includes material from 1831, 1832, 1833, 1836 and 1837. Extent of original material: 1 volume of 176 folios.
