Description: The history of street lighting in Argentina is narrated in this folder. In the 19th century, the candles were replaced by gas lighting in the 1850s in Buenos Aires. Three ports and only economically privileged families could pay for this kind of lighting. The gas enterprises were English and, in 1910, the four gas companies merged. But, by the first decades of the 20th century, the electric lighting system arrived in Argentina finally replacing the gas lamps.
