Buenos Aires Hipódromo Argentino Antiguo [1900-1950s]

Description: This envelope informs us of the oldest racetrack (or Hipódromo) in Buenos Aires. It was built in 1876 on the grounds of the land that once pertained to Argentine dictator Juan Manuel de Rosas. The photos contained in this envelope show the old construction with an official tribune, special boxes for the families, an elegant restaurant, and various gardens. Race tracking was second favourite only to football and published its own magazine, La Fija. By the end to the 20th century, the Palermo racetrack was privatised starting an inevitable decline.
