Empréstitos Patrióticos Rep. Argentina [1930s]

Description: This folder contains information on the Empréstitos Patrióticos (or Patriotic Loans). They were part of various economic measures so as to stabilise the economy in Argentina in the context of the 1929 crisis and its effects. Alberto Hueyo, Minister of Economy during the first years of the presidency of General Agustín P. Justo (1932-1938), asked for help to the private banks and investors in order to pay the salaries and debts owed by the State to its providers. However, due to these banks’ hesitation and indifference, Hueyo decided to ask the small savers to loan money to the State. They did so and the salaries were finally paid. The Patriotic Loans, however, increased the weak and bad relationship of the Minister with the rich investors. See Troncoso, Oscar A., “El plan de Pinedo,” Revista Panorama, April, 1971.
