Casas José Apolinario [1920s-1930s]

Description: This is a handmade envelope with two stationary envelopes of photos plus magazines' and newspapers' articles and clippings on Father José Apolinario Casas. He was the son of a Spanish immigrant and a criolla lady who became priest. In 1877, José Apolinario de Casas was the Canónigo Honorario (or Honorary Canon) and took the colonial church Nuestra Señora del Socorro under his protection. There he founded the Apostolado de la Oración (or the Apostolate of Prayers) as well as the Association of the Lord of Miracles (or Asociación del Señor de los Milagros). Some years later it was consecrated as a basilica by Casas’ dialogue with Pope Leon XIII. Shortly after, in 1903, and thanks to father Casas' closeness with the same Pope, he crowned the Lord of Miracles. This was a statue of Jesus that was venerated in the basilica since colonial times. Almost thirty years afterwards, in 1932, father Casas died. This envelope contains key information on his last ten years--an information that it is very difficult to find. Extent of original: Handmade envelope . Condition of original: Regular to bad condition.
