Paraná [1920s-1950s]

Description: This handmade envelope contains five stationary envelopes with the following material: newspapers’ and magazines’ articles and clippings, engravings, photos and one map. These documents inform us of the now city of Paraná. The neighbours of the province of Santa Fe established themselves in the 16th century on the Paraná River that gives the location its name. There were great advantages: cattle prospered in this place, the soil was fertile and the relationship with the native population was peaceful. The name Paraná is of guaraní origin meaning that the river is a relative of the sea. It was first a parish in 1739 and, then, became a town in 1822. Two years later Paraná became the capital city of the province of Entre Ríos. Extent of original: Handmade envelope . Condition of original: Regular to bad condition.
