Colonia Rep. Oriental del Uruguay [1930s]

Description: This envelope informs us of the now city Colonia del Sacramento on the right and northern margin of the Uruguay River. The Nova Colônia do Santíssimo Sacramento was founded by Portuguese Maestre de Campo Manuel de Lobo in 1678. As it was a military and commercial establishment, the governor of Buenos Aires sent a military force conquered Colonia and imposed the Spanish rule in 1680. This was only the beginning of a series of disputes between both Empires until Uruguay became an independent nation and Colonia del Sacramento, one of its most important towns and, then, cities. This envelope only deals with Colonia in the past and, in particular, during the 1930s. Extent of original: Handmade envelope . Condition of original: Regular to bad condition.
