Copper plate 2 [1655]

The copper plate, issued by Tirumalai Nayakkar in 1655 is the foundation charter of headman ship amongst the Pramalai Kallars. It establishes Pinna Tevar, the document holder’s forefather as the headman of eight provinces (nadu), grants him the right to deliver justice over his people and to collect fees during the festivals of Adi, Divali and Pongal from both Konars and Nayakkars. The inscription also names a second and third headman; however, no specific privileges are attributed to them.
