"Gebrä Hemamat ""The Rite of the Passion Week"" [1697 AD, during the reign of King Iyasu I Adyam Sägäd (1682-1706)]"

The Mäshafä Gebrä Hemamat is used for the church services during the days of the Holy Week. It is considered to have been compiled at least in the 15th century (Encyclopaedia Aethiopica II, 725-28). The manuscript contains the Mäshafä Gebrä Hemamat and a colophon with precise dates in folio 201v. The manuscript was possibly a donation of mämher ("teacher", here a senior ecclesiastic) (Segge?) Krestos mentioned in the colophon. Scribe unknown; the book was probably written in another area, around Gondär, by a very skilled scribe, and then brought to Tigray.
