Paramasastra is a treatise on the science of writing and grammar, traditionally attributed to five sages (empus) led by Empu Aji Saka—a legendary figure associated with the mythic origin of writing in Java. The text is organized into 47 systematically arranged chapters and is believed to have been composed in the 11th century CE. It is also known by the alternative title Paramakawi, which suggests that its scope extends beyond orthography to include poetic and literary scholarship. Serat Witaradya narrates the reign of King Kusumawicitra, also known as Prabu Ajipamasa, who ruled the kingdom of Pengging Witaradya until he abdicated the throne in favor of his son, Prabu Citrasoma. Babad Diponegoro is an historical manuscript chronicling the life of Prince Diponegoro, the son of Sultan Hamengkubuwono III of Yogyakarta, who led a major resistance against the Dutch during the Java War (1825–1830).
