The 'Tunda' is a satirical periodical founded by Manuel Belisario Barriga with the principal objective of articulating opposition to General Andrés Avelino Cáceres and the administration of his political associate, Remigio Morales Bermúdez. Throughout its trajectory, the newspaper experienced various series, corresponding to successive refoundations allegedly prompted by episodes of political persecution orchestrated by the very regime it denounced. While the publication did include occasional critiques of other prominent political figures—such as Nicolás de Piérola—its satirical discourse, articulated through both prose and verse, was chiefly oriented toward denouncing the figure of Cáceres and the militaristic tradition he represented. In addition to its political commentary, The 'Tunda' incorporated elements of social satire and published a special issue of 'La Felpa', a subsidiary organ explicitly aligned with its editorial line.
