El Rebenque

The 'Rebenque' is a satirical newspaper published a few months before the invasion of Bolivia led by President Agustín Gamarra. The newspaper's content reflects the lingering resentment against Santa Cruz and his confederation project. The threat of war with Bolivia is a recurring theme throughout its issues, as it is understood that as long as Santa Cruz remains in power, Peru's autonomy is at risk. Additionally, the newspaper vehemently discusses an apparent case of censorship against the newly established newspaper "El Comercio" for investigating a Peruvian ambassador, Mr. Tudela.
