La Pampa de Tebes: política y literatura

The 'Pampa de Tebes' constitutes a satirical newspaper primarily aimed at denouncing the militaristic orientation of Andrés Avelino Cáceres, which significantly influenced the administration of his political and military ally, Remigio Morales Bermúdez. Founded and edited by Manuel Benjamín Saldaña, the newspaper distinguishes itself within the satirical press of the time by virtue of its markedly literary character, manifested through the publication of poetry, short narrative pieces, and fictional dialogues between political and military figures. The newspaper’s critical stance towards the Morales Bermúdez regime is such that it even dedicates an issue to the commemoration of individuals who lost their lives attempting to overthrow the government.
