The 'Desengaño' is a satirical newspaper published during the final stage of the South American Wars of Independence. Su contenido demuestra claramente su apoyo a la causa realista, es decir, su oposición a los movimientos independentistas americanos. El periódico incluye noticias internacionales sobre la situación de los monarcas español y portugués, así como textos destinados a desacreditar la reputación de José de San Martín y Simón Bolívar. También elogia la situación económica que atravesó Perú bajo el régimen virreinal.
