Custodial history: Sophia Dobson Collet (1 February 1822 – 27 March 1894) was a 19th-century English writer and thinker. She was influenced by Rammohun Roy in her early life and became interested in the activities of Brahmo Samaj and the Hindu reform movements in India. Collet meticulously collected material on the activities of the Brahmo Samaj from different sources and published several books on Brahmo Samaj including the Life and Letters of Raja Rammohun Roy, which was published by F. H Stead after her death in 1900 and considered as the most detailed and accurate account on Roy’s life and work. The private papers of Sophia Dobson Collet came under the custody of the Sadharan Brahmo Samaj, Kolkata.
