Filmdom was published in the year 1946 under the editorship of R. A. Shaikh. The cover of the book offers an expansive description of its contents, and an advertisement for the Shalimar Film Company that doubled up as the producer of this well-researched and luxuriously designed velvet-bound book. It is a collaboratively produced compendium with brief biographies of actors, actresses, directors and producers, the names of the films they have done, along with their passport-size photographs and addresses. Additional photographs highlight achievements of some leading lights of the film industry, especially actresses. Intermediality of their careers has also been underlined. For example, in the case of Manorama who is shown with her trophies and photographs from All India Radio. The second half of the book comprises several lists: cinema halls in various cities as well as those touring, names of Censor Board members from all the regions, books on cinema, laws governing the trade and its personnel, along with charts suggesting the workflow in film companies and the film floor. The book has been acquired from a trader who curates material form the waste market. Regrettably, the book has a few missing pages.
