Vinaya text on the laying down of the fourth rule of the Parajika. At one time, the Buddha was dwelling at the Mahavana forest in Vesali. At the time, there happened a disaster in Vajji region. The people earned a living with difficulty. But a group of monks came up with a plot and praised each other’s super-human state, though it was false in order not to be troubled by food. Uttarimanussadhamma is the super-human states including jhānna (absorption), vimokkha (liberations), samāpatti (attainment), magg (the path) and phala (the fruition). When the Buddha was informed the matter, he called for a meeting of monk and blamed the group monks’ behavior and described the story of the five great thieves. A monk who boasted of the realizations although knowing that it is false is known as the greatest thief in the world because he consumes the villagers’ lumps with the symptom of thieves. The Buddha then laid down the fourth rule of the parajika (major offence), that is, forbidding a monk to show off any of extraordinary qualities that he has not been achieved. When you showed off, even after pleading guilty must be committed by the major offence. Colophon: Folio 26 on the recto side: Sangkatrasa (CS) 1188, a hwai set year, the eighth day of the waning moon of the first lunar month, the sixth day of the week (Friday), a kat chai day, the writing was accomplished at the time of kòng laeng (between 13.30–15.00 o’clock). Somdet Budda had the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Patika thang 3, to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years.
