Kammavaca (the formal words of an act) with the text mostly written in Pali is used for an ordination ceremony. General speaking, the kammavacha (kammavācā) deals with the set of questions and answers which is used in an ordination ceremony. In the ceremony, the ordaining monk must answer several “yes or no” questions posed to him by a monk on his right during a chant called Pha Kammavachanchan (Act-announcing teacher) who faces another monk on the left called Pha Anusavanachan (Ordination proclaiming teacher). Colophon: Folio 21 on the verso side: Chutthasakkarat (CS) 1253, a luang (huang) mao year, on the first day of the waning moon of the twelfth lunar month, the seventh day of the week (Saturday), a kat khai day in the Thai calendar, the writing of this manuscript was accomplished at the time of after breakfast. This manuscript entitled Kammavacha has been transalted all the words [Pali into Lanna]. Uttama Bhikkhu, abbot of Vat Ban Viang is the scribe, to support the Teachings of the Buddha. Nai Nan Maha Khiang and his wife named Nang Thai together with their relatives supported the palm leaves for the making of this manuscript […].
