Kannanur

The inscription is found on the southern sluice of the Kaṇṇaṉūṟ periyakuḷam. The sluice called periyamadai lies on the eastern part of the tank. This sluice belongs to the Kaṇṇaṉūr village. The inscription refers to the erection of the sluice by Tuṟumāvūr Araiyaṉ during the third regnal year of the Pāṇḍya king Māṟaṉ Saḍaiyaṉ corresponding to 769 CE. Inscription: Svasti srī kō/ Mārañcjaḍai/ yarku yāṇ/ ḍu 3 i…/ kaṇṇaṉūr / ku[ḷaṭṭukku] turumā/ nāṭṭu turumā/ vūr araiya/ [ṉ] sē/ viṭṭa kaṟ/ kumiḻik kā/ lu. கண்ணனூர் பெரியகுளத்து தெற்கு மடைத்தூணில் இக்கல்வெட்டு உள்ளது. குளத்தின் கிழக்குப்பகுதியில் அமைந்துள்ள பெரிய மடை என்று அழைக்கப்படுகின்ற குமிழி குளத்தின் உள்ளே உள்ளது. இந்த குளம் கண்ணனூர் கிராமத்தை சார்ந்தது. இக்குமுழியை பாண்டிய மன்னன் மாறன் சடையனின் மூன்றாம் ஆட்சியாண்டில் பொ.ஆ.769இல் துறுமாவூர் அரையன் என்பவன் அமைத்ததாகக் கூறுகிறது. கல்வெட்டு: ஸ்வஸ்தி ஸ்ரீ கோ/ மாறஞ்சடை/ யர்கு யாண்/ டு 3 இ…/ கண்ணனூர்/ கு[ளத்துக்கு] துறுமா/நாட்டு துறுமா/ வூர் அரைய/ (ன்)சே/ வித்த கற்/குமிழிக் கா/ லு.
