Idaiyattur

The inscription is engraved on the pillar of the southern tank. The sluice, called Periyamadai, lies on the eastern part of the tank. This tank belongs to Iḍaiyāttūr village. The inscription refers to the establishment of this sluice Kāḍañcāttaṉ and Kāḍaṉ Kaṇḍaṉ. The title Kōvirājakēsari suggests that it might have been established during the Chōḻa king Parāntaka-I. On the palaeographical ground, the inscription could be dated to the 9th century CE. Inscription: Svasti sri kōvirā/ jakēcari paṉmarkku yā/ ṉḍu eṭṭāvatu/ ollaiyūr kūṟṟa/ ttu iṭai āŗ/ ṟūrp paṭāraṅ/ kāṭaṉ āṉa/ karumāṉikka/ c ceṭṭi makka/ ḷ kāṭañ cāt/ kaṇṭaṉum/ [nḷ] pōkappaṭṭā/ [pē]r ik kumi/ ḻi. இடையாத்தூர் தெற்கு கண்மாயின் மடைத்தூணில் இக்கல்வெட்டு உள்ளது. குளத்தின் கிழக்குப்பகுதியில் அமைந்துள்ள பெரிய மடை என்று அழைக்கப்படுகின்ற குமிழி குளத்தின் கரைக்கு அருகாமையில் உள்ளது. இந்த குளம் இடையாத்தூர் கிராமத்தை சார்ந்தது. இக்குமுழியை காடஞ்சாத்தன், காடன் கண்டன் என்ற இருவர் அமைத்ததாகக் கூறுகிறது. கோவிகேசரி என்ற பட்டத்தின் அடிப்படையில் இக்குமி்ழி சோழ மன்னன் முதலாம் பராந்தகன் காலத்தைச் சார்ந்தது எனலாம். எழுத்தமைதியின் அடிப்படையில் இக்கல்வெட்டு கி.பி.9ஆம் நூற்றாண்டை சார்ந்ததாகும். கல்வெட்டு: 1ஸ்வ ஸ்தி ஸ்ரீ கோவிரா/ ஜகேசரி பந்மர்க்கு யா/ ண்டு எட்டாவது/ ஒல்லையூர் கூற்ற/ த்து இடை ஆற்/ றூர்ப் படாரங்/ காடன் ஆன/ கருமாணிக்க/ ச் செட்டி மக்க/ ள் காடஞ்சாத்/ தனும் காடங்/ கண்டனும்/ (நீள்) போகப்பட்ட/ (பே)ர் இக்குமி/ ழி.
