Seranur

This inscription is found on the pillar of the northern sluice of the tank called Periyakuḷam located in the Sēraṉūr village. This inscription refers to the erection of the sluice by Kōmattiyār wife of Rajarāja Sikara Vēḷār. On the palaeographical ground, it could be dated to the 10th century CE. Inscription: svasti / srī uḍai/ yār raja/ rāja [sikara]/ vēḷār tē/ viyār nambirā/ ṉ [cāttai kuma/ raṉāṉa] kōma/ tta dēviyā/ r cēvitta ku/ miḻi. சேரனூர் பெரியக் குளத்தின் வடக்கு மடைத்தூணில் இக்கல்வெட்டு உள்ளது. குமிழி குளத்தின் உள்ளே உள்ளது. இந்த குளம் சேரனூர் கிராமத்தை சார்ந்தது. இக்குமுழியை ராஜராஜ சிகர வேளாரின் மனைவி கோமத்ததேவியார் அமைத்ததாக கூறுகிறது. எழுத்தமைதியின் அடிப்படையில் இது கி.பி.10 ஆம் நூற்றாண்டை சார்ந்ததாகும். கல்வெட்டு ஸ்வஸ்தி/ ஸ்ரீ உடை/ யார் ராஜ/ ராஜ [சிகர]/ வேளார் தே/ வியார் நம்பிரா/ ன் [சாத்தை கும/ ரனான] கோம்/ மத்த தேவியா/ ர் சேவித்த கு/ மிழி.
