Narthamalai

This inscription is found on the rocky surface on the bank of the Nārttāmalai tank called Aṇimata-ēri. This inscription refers to the erection of the sluice by Tamiḻatiraiyaṉ alias Mallaṉ Viḍamaṉ. On the palaeographical ground, it could be dated to the 8th century CE. Inscription: sri aṇimata yēri/ veṉŗi matat tamiḻa/ tirayaraiṉāyiṉa mal/ laṉ viṭamaṉ ceyvi/ tta kumiḻi/ itu ceta taccaṉ co/ ṉaṉāraiyaṉukku kuṭu/ tta kumiḻit tuṭaval/ kuḷaccey vaṭaviyatu. நார்த்தாமலை அணிமத ஏரியின் பாறையில் இக்கல்வெட்டு உள்ளது. குமிழி குளத்தின் உள்ளே உள்ளது. இந்த குளம் நார்த்தாமலை கிராமத்தை சார்ந்தது. இக்குமுழியை தமிழதிரயரைனனாயின மல்லன் விடமன் என்பவன் அமைத்ததாக கூறுகிறது. எழுத்தமைதியின் அடிப்படையில் இது கி.பி.8-ஆம் நூற்றாண்டை சார்ந்ததாகும். கல்வெட்டு ஸ்ரீ அணிமத யேரி/ வென்றி மதத் தமிழ/ திரயரைனனாயின மல்/ லன் விடமன் செய்வி/ த்த குமிழி/ இது செத தச்சன் சொ/ னனாரையனுக்கு குடு/ த்த குமிழித் துடவல் / குழச்செய் வடவியது.
