Melappanaiyur-3

This inscription is found on the pillar of the sluice of the Siṟuthāṇḍi kaṇmāi of Mēlappaṉaiyūṟ. This sluice is erected on the northern part of the tank. This sluice belongs to the Mēlappaṉaiyūr village. Srī Maraiya Kaṇḍaṉ Taccaṉ erected the sluice. On the palaeographical ground, it could be dated to the 12th century CE. Inscription: savasti/ srī i/ kkuḻumi/ iṟaṅkal/ mīṭṭāṉ srī/ maraiya ka/ ṇṭa thac/ caṅkaṭ/ ṭa nilanta/ ran[ṟ] muṭṭa/ tti[ṟ]] kiḻa/t[tā]. மேலப்பனையூர் சிறுத்தாண்டி கண்மாயின் குமிழிக்காலில் இக்கல்வெட்டு உள்ளது. குளத்தின் வடக்குப்பகுதியில் அமைந்துள்ள குமிழி குளத்தின் கரையை ஒட்டியே உள்ளது. இந்த குளம் மேலப்பனையூர் கிராமத்தை சார்ந்தது. இக்குமுழியை ஸ்ரீ மரைய கண்ட தச்சன் அமைத்ததாகக் கூறுகிறது. எழுத்தமைதியின் அடிப்படையில் இது கி.பி.12ஆம் நூற்றாண்டை சார்ந்ததாகும். கல்வெட்டு: ஸ்வஸ்தி/ ஸ்ரீ இ/ க்குழுமி/ இறங்கல்/ மீட்டா[ன்] / மரைய க/ ண்ட தச்/ சங்க கட்ட/ நிலந்த/ ரந் [ற்]. முட்ட/ த்தி[ற]கி ழ/ த்[தா] .
