Melappanaiyur-2

This inscription is found on the western pillar of the centre sluice of the Siṟuthāṇḍi kaṇmāi of Mēlappaṉaiyūṟ. This sluice is erected on the northern part of the tank. This sluice belongs to the Mēlappaṉaiyūr village. Srī Muṉaiyaṉ Taṉīchchaṉ erected the sluice. On the palaeographical ground, it could be dated to the 12th century CE. Inscrption: Srī / muṉaiya/ ṉ taṉ/ ṉīccaṉ. மேலப்பனையூர் சிறுத்தாண்டி கண்மாயின் நடு மடைத்தூணில் மேற்கு காலில் இக்கல்வெட்டு உள்ளது. குளத்தின் வடக்குப்பகுதியில் அமைந்துள்ள குமிழி குளத்தின் கரையை ஒட்டியே உள்ளது. இந்த குளம் மேலப்பனையூர் கிராமத்தை சார்ந்தது. இக்குமுழியை ஸ்ரீ முனையன் தனீச்சன் என்பவன் அமைத்ததாகக் கூறுகிறது. எழுத்தமைதியின் அடிப்படையில் இது கி.பி.12ஆம் நூற்றாண்டை சார்ந்ததாகும். கல்வெட்டு: 1ஸ்ரீ/ முனைய/ ன் தன்/ னீச்சன்.
