Melappanaiyur-1

This inscription is found on the eastern pillar of the centre sluice of the Siṟuthāṇḍi kaṇmāi of Mēlappaṉaiyūṟ. This sluice is erected on the northern part of the tank. This sluice belongs to the Mēlappaṉaiyūr village. Srī Araṅgaṉ Periyān erected the sluice. On the palaeographical ground, it could be dated to the 9th century CE. Inscription: Srī / araṅka/ n peri/ yān. மேலப்பனையூர்சிறுத்தாண்டி கண்மாயின் நடு மடைத்தூணில் கிழக்கு காலில் இக்கல்வெட்டு உள்ளது. குளத்தின் வடக்குப்பகுதியில் அமைந்துள்ள குமிழி குளத்தின் கரையை ஒட்டியே உள்ளது. இந்த குளம் மேலப்பனையூர் கிராமத்தை சார்ந்தது. இக்குமுழியை ஸ்ரீ அரங்கன் பெரியான் என்பவன் அமைத்ததாகக் கூறுகிறது. எழுத்தமைதியின் அடிப்படையில் இது கி.பி.9ஆம் நூற்றாண்டை சார்ந்ததாகும். கல்வெட்டு: ஸ்ரீ/ அரங்க/ ந் பெரி/ யாந்.
