Kodumbalur

The inscription is engraved on the southern pillar of the sluice located close to the tank bund behind the Koḍumbālūr Musukintīsvarar temple. This tank belongs to the Koḍumbālūr village. The inscription refers to the erection of this sluice by Sāttaṉ Nīlaṉ, a member of the trade guild Aiññuṟṟuvar. On palaeographical ground, it could be dated to 15th century CE. Inscription: Svasti srī/ aiññuṟṟuvar ra/ kṣai ceyvittāṉ/ cāttāṉṉīlaṉ. கொடும்பாளூர் முசுகுந்தீசுவரர் கோயிலுக்கு பின்புறமுள்ள கொடும்பாளூர் கண்மாய் தெற்கு மடைத்தூணில் இக்கல்வெட்டு உள்ளது. குளத்தின் தெற்குப்பகுதியில் அமைந்துள்ள பெரிய மடை என்று அழைக்கப்படுகின்ற குமிழி குளத்தின் கரையை ஒட்டியே உள்ளது. இந்த குளம் கொடும்பாளூர் கிராமத்தை சார்ந்தது. இக்குமுழியை ஐநூற்றுவர் வணிகக் குழுவைச் சேர்ந்த சாத்தன் நீலன் என்பவன் அமைத்ததாகக் கூறுகிறது. எழுத்தமைதியின் அடிப்படையில் இது கி.பி.15ஆம் நூற்றாண்டை சார்ந்ததாகும். . கல்வெட்டு: ஸ்வஸ்தி ஸ்ரீ/ அஞ்ஞாற்றுவர் ரக்/ சை செய்வித்தான்/ சாத்தன்னீலன்.
