Magic or witchcraft is a term used since ancient times in the Batticaloa area for conjuring up deities, exorcisms, and scaring others. It mentions rituals evoking commonly worshipped deities such as caṇṭimātēvi pēcci vīrapattiraṉ piḷḷaiyār.
