This material is a Tamil palm-leaf manuscript titled ‘Vataṉamār akaval’ from Eastern Province, Sri Lanka. The period of this manuscript is unknown but it is estimated to be from the period between 1901-1950. This manuscript is written by M. Vaalasingam in Batticaloa. ‘Vatanamar’ holds a special place among the rural deity worship. This deity is worshiped by cowherds as guardians of their animals. A section called Pūtaroppāri is also written in this book. Vatanamar's birth, mother and father are mentioned in this section.
