கந்தபுராணம்

This material is a Tamil palm-leaf manuscript from Kondavil, Sri Lanka. A major part of this manuscript is severely damaged and deteriorated. It begins with intiraṉaruccittapaṭalam. On the basis of the content and the references to cūraṉ taṇṭañ cey paṭalam, acamuki nakar kāṇ paṭalam, vilvalaṉ villavaṉ vātāvi paṭalam, intiraṉ kalantuṟai paṭalam, tirauñcappaṭalam, tirukkuṟṟālappaṭalam, makācāttappaṭalam, makēntira cailappaṭalam, cayantaṉ kaṉavu kāṇ paṭalam, intiraṉ mīṭcippaṭalam, it could be Kantapurāṇam/ Skanda Purana [the largest mythological texts in the Hindu literature]. This appears to be a copy of the original work from the 12th century authored by Kachiyappa Sivachariyar from Tamil Nadu, India. The original work contains six chapters and reading of Kantapurāṇam is a common religio-cultural practice of Jaffna Hindus. The protective cover is not available. Extent: 132.0.
