This material is a palm-leaf manuscript from Jaffna, Sri Lanka. This text belongs to a genre of Tamil Saivite devotional poetry called the Kavacam. The text could either be one part of the larger 16th C text piramōttara kāṇṭam created in Tamilnadu, from which it was separately published. Some sources claim that this was created by Tēvarāya Cuvāmikaḷ of the 19th C, a scholar in Tamilnadu who created six kavacam texts including the widely popular kantacaṣṭi kavacam of the same genre as this text. This is a copy of the original text and attests to the wide circulation of texts across Tamilnadu and northern Sri Lanka. Extent: 118.0. Size and dimensions of original material: L 33 cm, W 4.3 cm. Original institution reference: 25.0.
