A handwritten unbound Tibetan text (pecha) on handmade paper. Handwritten in "headless" Tibetan dbu med (Umé) script, primarily in black ink but with some additional red ink. Some very small writing in places. Six pages with line drawing illustrations. Text identified by the local fieldworkers as an additional, detailed commentary on the third medical tantra, commissioned to add further detail to the first commentary.
Extent: One unbound book consisting of 299 folios between wooden covers.
Size and dimensions of original material: Each folio is 48cm x 8.5 cm.
Condition of original material: The wooden cover is twisted from exposure to damp. The pages are also wrinkled by damp. One replacement folio on different paper stock is badly damaged. One original folio is missing a fragment on the left hand side. Discoloration of edges and some paper damage throughout, related to age and usage. Staining on many folios, clear signs of mould on others. However the text is in general perfectly legible.
Custodial history: An amchi text belonging to the late Meme Tamchung, father of Dorje Gyalpo. Meme Tamchung was an amchi ( Tibetan doctor) but the medical lineage and expertise came to an end with his death.
Arrangement: A single text kept in the household prayer room. The precise country of origin is unknown. However it is almost certain that the original text was created in Tibet, though the specific material in question may have been copied locally in Spiti (India) at a later date.
