Two animal horns. According to the owner, these are the horns of mythical creatures. Both coming from the realm of the nagas and originally from Tibet. Two rare and special objects, used for rituals and blessings. The twisted black horn, covered in leather, the horn of a "water horse" (water unicorn?) is blown like a thighbone trumpet and used to prevent hailstorms. The carved horn with copper end pieces is filled with barley grains or mustard seeds during ceremonies. Carvings include scorpions, a stupa, snakes, the King of the nagas and a water lion.
Extent: One leather covered animal horn, one carved animal horn.
Size and dimensions of original material: The leather covered horn is 35 cm long. The carved horn is 21 cm long and 4.5 acroos at the widest.
Condition of original material: Both horns are darkened through usage but in very good condition for their age.
Custodial history: The older material has been handed down from father to son for at least four generations.
Arrangement: All the material is stored in the prayer room (not seen) and was brought out to be measured and digitised. It is kept in boxes when travelling.
