དཔེ་ཆ

A handwritten unbound Tibetan text (pecha) on handmade paper. Handwritten in "headless" Tibetan dbu med (Ume) script. No title but this is a red mouth mika text. A ritual to protect against the negative effects of malicious gossip, slander or thoughtless chatter. There are three different kinds of mika rituals and corresponding texts མི་ཁ་ཁ་དམར་མ།.

Extent: One loosely book consisting of sixteen folios.

Size and dimensions of original material: Each folio is 29 cm x 8 cm. opening up to 58 cm x 8 cm.

Condition of original material: Darkened through usage throughout.

Custodial history: The older material has been handed down from father to son for at least four generations.

Arrangement: All the material is stored in the prayer room (not seen) and was brought out to be measured and digitised. It is kept in boxes when travelling. The precise country of origin is unknown. However it is almost certain that the original text was created in Tibet, though the specific material in question may have been copied locally in Spiti (India) at a later date.
