དཔེ་ཆ

A handwritten unbound Tibetan text (pecha) on handmade paper. Handwritten in "headless" Tibetan dbu med (Ume) script, with a cover sheet in "headed" Tibetan dbu chen (Uchen) script. A unusual short "text" containing several diagrams, perhaps sections of larger drawings. One is similar in some ways to a wheel of life thangka but in four sections not six. The cover has the mantra of Avalokitesvara, the boddhisatva of compassion: ཨོཾ་ཨ་ཧཱུ་ཨོཾ་མ་ཎི་པདྨེ་ཧཱུ་ཨ.

Extent: One unbound book consisting of two folios.

Size and dimensions of original material: Each folio is 8 cm x 28cm.

Condition of original material: Staining and some paper damage.

Arrangement: Loose texts kept in the prayer room in a cardboard box. The precise country of origin is unknown. However it is almost certain that the original text was created in Tibet, though the specific material in question may have been copied locally in Spiti (India) at a later date.
