A long handwritten unbound Tibetan text (pecha) on handmade paper in "headless" Tibetan dbu med (Ume) script. An unidentified medical text with no title page. Some of the text refers to the nature of, and treatment of, colds and flu, aching, shivering and phlegm.
Extent: One unbound book consisting of one hundred folios.
Size and dimensions of original material: Each folio is 35.3 cm x 8.5 cm.
Condition of original material: Generally good condition for its age. Some discolouration and staining throughout. Several folios have damaged corners with small amounts of text missing . Otherwise the text is legible throughout.
Custodial history: Material handed down from the current owner's father.
Arrangement: A series of amchi (Tibetan medical) texts, kept in the owner's prayer room. The precise country of origin is unknown. However it is almost certain that the original text was created in Tibet, though the specific material in question may have been copied locally in Spiti (India) at a later date.
