A handwritten unbound Tibetan text (pecha) on handmade paper. Handwritten in "headless" Tibetan dbu med (Ume) script. This is a text for a ritual to cure an individual whose problems are caused by evil spirits. The cure is undertaking Palden Lhamo’s puja. This ritual includes the making of a dough sculptural ransom effigy. མ་མོ་བསྟན་མའི་བཟློག་མདོས་བཞུགས་སོ། མ་མོ་ is a class of female deities of whom Palden Lhamo is the most prominent. མ་མོ་བསྟན་མ is the name of the spirit In this case the title refers to Palden Lhamo བཟློག་ is to stop, oppose, overcome, remove or cleanse obstacles through ritual མདོས is a dough ransom effigy.
Extent: One unbound book consisting of nine folios.
Size and dimensions of original material: Each folio is 27.5 cm x 7 cm. The precise country of origin is unknown. However it is almost certain that the original text was created in Tibet, though the specific material in question may have been copied locally in Spiti (India) at a later date.
