དཔེ་ཆ

A handwritten unbound Tibetan text (pecha) on handmade paper. In Tibetan dbu chen (Uchen) script. An untitled text. A ritual to appease the queen of the lake spirits / ocean queen / queen of the nagas. The ritual involves the making of a dough sacrificial offering (མདོས).Title derived from text is perhaps མཚོ་སྨན་རྒྱལ་མོའི་དགུར་མདོས་བཞུགས་སོ། མཚོ་སྨན་རྒྱལ་མོ means queen of the lake spirits ( a kind of naga) མདོས means a sacrificial figure.

Extent: One book consisting of nine folios.

Size and dimensions of original material: Each folio is 64 cm x 8 cm, folded to 32 cm x 8 cm.

Condition of original material: Staining and discolouration through age.

Arrangement: All material is kept in the prayer room. The precise country of origin is unknown. However it is almost certain that the original text was created in Tibet, though the specific material in question may have been copied locally in Spiti (India) at a later date.
