This work Ashtavakra gita depects the questions of king Janaka and upadesa of Ashtavakra.It dealt with the vedata thoughts like yoga, dhyana, gnana practices to get high state of advita thoughts for attaining a gnani. In this work the chapters1, 3, 5, 8, 10, 11, 15, 16, 17 and 18 are upadesas and chapters 2, 4, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 19, 20 are Janaka’s questions. This work strarts with leaf no 180. அஷ்டாவக்ரர் என்பவர் ஜனக மன்னனிடம் உபதேசித்த பிரம்ம ஞானமும், ஜனகர் அ.ஷடாவக்ரரிடம் கேட்ட கேள்விகளுமே அஷ்டாவக்ர கீதை ஆகும். வேதாந்தத்தில் சந்தேகங்கள் தீர்ந்து அனுபவத்தில் நிலைபெற முயலும் யோகம், தியானம், ஞானம் ஆகியவற்றில் பயிற்சி பெற்ற சாதகர்கள் பற்றற்று, பணியற்று, மாசற்று அத்வைத உயர் நிலையில் உள்ள ஞானியாவதற்குப் பெரிதும் துணைபுரியும் கேள்வி-பதில் வடிவில் இருபது அத்தியாயங்களில் அமைந்தது அட்டாவக்ர கீதை. இவற்றில் 1, 3, 5, 8, 10, 11, 15, 16, 17, 18 ஆகிய அத்தியாயங்கள் அஷ்டாவக்ரருடைய உபதேசமும், 2, 4, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 19, 20 ஆகிய அத்தியாயங்கள் ஜனகனின் கேள்விகளாகவும் அமைந்துள்ளன. ஏட்டெண் 180இல் நூல் தொடங்குகிறது.
