[Personal diaries and notes of Komal Kothari]

This is a notebook containing notes and personal writings of Komal Kothari spanning almost three years. The first few pages contain side by side analysis of the storyline and characters of the folk epics Bagrawat and Pabuji followed by 'to do' lists and rough calculation for purchase of Par paintings. The notebook has also been used irregularly as a daily journal during work and lectures in London and during Holland festival trip in 1978. The notebook contains extensive research on Kathputli tradition including interactions with Kathputli Bhats of various villages, names of characters in Kathputli tradition, contact details of artists, processes of making puppets and interactions with Babulal and Bhagwandas of the Kathputli colony in Delhi. This research also includes comparative notes with puppet traditions of Afghanistan and shadow puppets of Bali, and notes on a book titled Annal and Antiquities of Rajasthan. The last few pages contain a few riddles in Rajasthani and a note on the folk epics of Rajasthan. Custodial history: Collection of Komal Kothari, housed at Rupayan Sansthan.
