Vessantara Jātaka, Fifth Bundle: Jūjakaparva

Title in Burmese: ဝေဿန္တရာဇာတ်တော်.

Title in Thai: พระเวสันดรชาดก กัณฑ์ชูชก.

Title in Mon: ဇုဇပဝ်ပဉ္စမဝက်.

Transliterated title: JUJAPAW PAÑCAMA WAK.

Palm leaf manuscript of the Vessantara Jātaka, in 9 bundles, recounting one of Gotama Buddha''s past lives when he was Prince Vessantara, who gives all his possessions away. Note that the identification comes from the Thai name written in pen on the manuscripts - the Mon version of the name "Vessantuiw" is not found on any colophon. Each bundle has its own name in Mon, so I have listed each separately. The ordinals suggest that this is not a complete set; not all titles have an ordinal in them. I have listed them based on the Thai-language tags on the outside of the bundles.

Extent: 9 of 9 bundles, approximately 22 faces.

Condition of original material: Stylus-inscribed palm leaf manuscript with no ink rubbed into etchings. Some letters have slightly unusual shapes. Legible and in good condition, complete and in order. Surface of some leaves rough or a bit discoloured (but not dirty).

Custodial history: Handwriting is Thai Mon, so manuscript is of local provenance.
