The volume records burials of enslaved, freed (forro), and free individuals registered in the Church of São Gonçalo do Amarante between 09 Jun 1871 and 12 Oct 1876. The opening and closing charters were signed by Municipal Judge Luis Mattoso in Niterói on 28 Jun 1871. A second opening charter was signed by Vicar João Ferreira (Ferr.a) Goulart on 20 Jun 1871. Folios 31V and 32F are blank. Entries record the cause of death, when known. The volume records the burials of free children born to enslaved mothers after the passage of the "Free Womb" Law as well as of Portuguese individuals, among others. The volume documents a pastoral visitation realized on 25 Sept 1995 by the Chancelor of the Archbishopric, Father Edson Assunção. African "nations"/ethnonyms mentioned: Benguela.
