Óbitos de Forros e Livres, 1773-1809

The volume records the burial of freed (forro/liberto) and free individuals registered in the Church of Nossa Senhora do Amparo de Maricá-RJ. Entries date from 7 Mar 1773 through 15 Aug 1809. The opening charter is dated October 177(?) and was signed by one Lourenço; the closing charter is dated 18 Mar 17(?)2 and was signed by André Lopes de Carvalho. Entries were signed by the following clergy: Vicar Vicente Ferreira de (?); Coadjutor José Francisco de Carvalho; Antonio de Araujo Soares; José Soares de (?); Coadjutor Antonio Valentim dos Reis; Coadjutor Vicente José Fernandes Valladares; Commissioned José Custódio (?); and Coadjutor Manoel Martins de Castro. The volume records a pastoral visit realized on 18 Jan 1784. The volume includes some testaments, several of which record the "donation" of slaves. There are some registers of individuals described as "freed blacks" ("pretos forros") and freed people of mixed descent ("pardos forros"). Physical characteristics: The volume consists of 414 numbered folios that have been severely damaged by insects. The front and back covers have fallen off and a number of the folios have come loose from the binding. Folios 403 through 414 are blank. Dimensions: 33cm x 23cm.
