Casamentos de Forros e Livres, 1867-1876

The volume records marriages of freed and free people registered in the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição de Rio Bonito between 05 Oct 1867 and 09 Feb 1876. Luiz Manoel Mendes Vellozo signed the opening and closing charters on 30 Sept 1867 and initialed each folio. The opening charter was also signed by Judge Joaquim Victorino Pereira Alves on 10 Feb 1876. Among the betrothed were freed people whose parents remained enslaved; captains and lieutenants appear as witnesses to a number of marriages. The volume documents a pastoral visit realized on 3 Jun 1898 by Francisco, Bishop of Petrópolis and one conducted by D. Carlos Alberto Navarro, Bishop of Niterói, on 02 Jul 1997 (the Chancellor of the Archbishopric, Father Edson Assunção, also signed this record). Among the marriages recorded in this volume are those of the son of Major Justino José de Miranda to the daughter of Captain Antonio Maria da Silva Castro (9F); the son of Captain Gabriel Moreira Damasco (12V), the daughter of Lieutenant Felicissimo José da S.a Ribeiro (17F), the daughter of Captain Antonio Maria da Silva Castro (24F), the son of Lieutenatn José da Silva Cardoso (35V), the daughter of Captain Antonio Joaquim Sundré Coelho (65V), and the son of Captain Luiz Antonio do Nascimento (150F). Vicar Virtulino Bezerra Cavalcanti signed each entry. Physical characteristics: The volume consists of 154 numbered, insect-damaged folios that have come loose from the cover.
