Diante’s Bilingual Collection III

Transliterated title: Jante la Kandoolu Kitaaboolu III.

Contains a collection of various manuscripts, written by different hands on a variety of papers. The texts include prose and poetry. They are written in classical Arabic and include extensive Arabic and Soninke Ajami glosses. The themes discussed in the manuscripts include life after death, angels, and ḥadīth (Islamic prophetic traditions).

Custodial history: The owner inherited them from his father, Mamadou Lamine Diante, who was born in Baghere in Casamance and received his Islamic education in Dia-Simaacounda. He later settled in Kontecounda where he served as an Imam and Quranic teacher until his death.

Extent and format of original material: 53 pages.

Physical characteristics: Unbound manuscript. Many pages are damaged by water. Some are torn at the bottom.
