Celebrating Prophet Muhammad's Birthday

Transliterated title: Kalifa la Mawluudoo.

The manuscript is a photocopy of a poem that the owner calls Kalifa la Mawluudoo. It is a hagiographic poem that recounts the story of Prophet Muhammad, beginning before his birth and ending after his death. It is chanted during the celebration of Prophet Muhammad’s birthday. The original was authored by Mouhamdou Kalifa Djiddah, one of the former teachers of the manuscript owner (Alphousseyni Diante). It was copied from the original by Arfang Ousmane Drame.

Custodial history: The owner made the photocopy. The author, Mouhamadou Kalifa Djiddah, is a son of Diane Seydi, a famous Mandinka scholar. He was born and raised in Djiddah Pakao in the present-day region of Sedhiou where he lived until his death.
