The Origin of Herba Drame (The Founder of Sunna-Karantaba)

Transliterated title: Heerebaa Darame la Asloo.

The manuscript is a copy of the original, written in Mandinka Ajami. Fode Aladji Drame, the current owner, copied it in 1977. It is a biography of his great grandfather, Fode Herba Drame (1680-1775), who founded the town of Sunna-Karantaba, which is an important Mandinka Islamic learning center in Casamance. The document traces the origin of Fode Herba Drame to his birthplace in Manding (Mali), shows his itinerary and the places where he stayed before founding Sunna Karantaba. It also shows how his descendants spread in the Pakao area to build mosques and create other towns and villages, including Mankonomba.
