A narrative thangka illustrating the story of Kandro Rigtong Gyelmo. (Wylie perhaps mkha' 'gro ma rig stong rgyal mo) Size including the cloth surround 114 x 66 cm. Image (melong) size 71 x 43 cm. Central figure is Je Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Gelugpa school of Buddhism. Rigtong Gyelmo was a manifestation of Manjushri (Jamphel Yang) , the Bodhisattva of Wisdom.. Creation dates: Mid 19th Century. Date suggested by the owner. Custodial history: An old thangka handed down within his family, perhaps from the time of his great grandfather, the first performer in his lineage.
