A narrative thangka illustrating the story of Drimed Kunden དྲི་མེད་ཀུན་ལྡན (Wylie Dri med kun ldan). Size including the cloth surround 156 cm x 87.5 cm. Image (melong) size 82.5 x 54.5cm. Finely detailed and in very good condition overall with some paint loss due to creasing. Central figure of four armed Chenresig. Perhaps 80-100 years old. Old silver Tibetan coin attached.. Creation dates: Early 20th Century. Custodial history: An object donated to Dolma Ling nunnery by Buchen Gyurme. It probably belonged to one of three Lama Manipa who had fled from Tibet and who continued to perform within the exile Tibetan communities in India and Nepal. These manipa were Buchen Gyurme (Wylie ’Gyur med), Buchen Norgye (Wylie Nor rgyas), and Buchen Passang (Wylie Pa sangs) The thangka's precise provenance prior to its deposit at Dolma Ling is unknown.
